New Camshaft against Old

New (top) and old camshafts

Well after posting a photo of my original camshaft in the engine on Facebook and being told by many there is little sign of wear I though all I have gone so far with the engine strip down I may as well replace the camshaft. Based on the general comments that the Rover V8 camshafts are usually due for replacement at 60k miles then it seemed a good opportunity to do so as engine has done nearly 50k miles.

On removing the camshaft followers there is definitely the initial signs of early pitting on the face surface – which means the camshaft and followers are ready for replacement.
