MGRV8 Passenger Door Gap?

There was a post on one of the MGRV8 Facebook groups where it was suggested that the passenger doors on the earlier cars were not a very good fit. So I checked and found that mine – which is #0340 (ie. no 90 off the production line of the 1983 made) – was not the best fit as well.

Would be interesting if any owners could check their passenger lower door fit and leave a comment below with the last 4 digits of your vin no.

  1. Hello, Interesting thread. Ive number (409) & although its an early UK car its my third RV8. previous two cars were a later one R380 box & a slightly earlier than my current one another UK car. I started noticing these body/panel fit issues on my first car. Whether it be bumper fir, door fit etc & it started to bug me. My history is ex Dealer master tech for MG Rover so I have quite an interest in these cars, I’m still in the motor industry & have bodyshop connections so it was something I looked to sort. However, it’s more the rear wing & door position that’s the issue & did not warranty heavy body work. We know how the build was on these cars & the technology back then so best improved with adjustment than heavy body work I thought. I’d looked at several cars at shows etc & it’s very common, along with the front & rear bumper profiles that are often very sporodic in their fitments! So I took no further action once I started to notice this on many other vehicles. Although, adjusting the inner door hinges made a significant improvement & I’ve done this to a few cars now. You don’t get perfection but certainly a lot better. Word of caution if you haven’t done this & are going to attempt it, get some replacement inner hinge screws in advance in case you damage the screw heads if a centre punch removal is required & have plenty of time & patients. But as I say worth the effort. The other area that bugs is the inner chrome sill trim on the drivers sill where the left side on the drivers side often has a gap between trim & body, but not on the passenger side. Again I’ve seen this on many cars. Great pages you have here, keep up the work. All the best Julian
