I’ve done a couple of jobs on the engine recently where I have had to drain off some of the coolant. I topped up the system after the jobs were done with just water so diluting the remaining coolant.

For a while now I have wanted to add some extra concentrated antifreeze but I don’t want to let any air in the system which would happen if I drained some coolant off by removing a hose connection.

I remembered when I removed the timing cover that one of the bolts when removed would drain coolant from the system through the bolt hole …….. see https://mgrv8.info/2024/03/30/timing-cover-off-coolant-drain/
So that’s what I did. I removed the bolt, the diluted coolant drained slowly onto a bowl under the engine and at the same time I topped up the reservoir with new concentrated coolant.

When job done I painted the bolt head blue to remind me which bolt it is for future reference.
