Steering Rack Gaiter Replacement

At last got garage sorted to be able to get some work done on my cars after an elongated moving house saga.

I don’t know how these gaiters passed the last mot but I’m not going to risk putting it through its next one.

I wasn’t sure whether the gaiters were the same as the MGB but a member of the MGRV8 World Owners group on Facebook assured me they were so I have bought a pair from MG Beehive plus the track rod end knuckle joint covers that look a bit ropey as well.

Got the car jacked up under the front cross member and axle stands under the front chassis frame. Wheels off and slackened the tracking adjustment nut. The track rod ends came away surprisingly easily – usually have to prise them off. They seemed a bit sloppy so I am replacing them.

To avoid having to have the steering tracked again after replacing these track rod ends I carefully took measurements across the centres to reset the new joints.

The old gaiters were a bit of a mess and had obviously been “botched”

The gaiters are the same as the MGB

Already to reassemble with the new parts and hopefully ready for its MOT.

Job done ……..
