I started to hear a housing sound when ever I applied the brakes whether moving or stationary. There was no reduction in breaking power just the noise which was steadily getting louder.

Checking out the options was either a new servo for nearly £300 (which needed a £750 deposit exchange unit) or repair kit for half the price. Also based on the workshop manual I have to remove the pedal box to get at the 4 bolts attaching the servo. This means bleeding the clutch and brakes …….. which is a pain, especially the clutch.

I decided that before disconnecting the brake and clutch master cylinders I would try to get at the 4 servo bolts. With an assortment of spanners to initially loosen the nuts then with various 1/4″ socket attachments I eventually got these nuts off – the worst one after literally turning them one flat at a time. After extracting the servo with brake master cylinder I was able to get to the nuts securing the master cylinder to the servo.
