MGRV8 Rusty Distributor Rotor

Rusty rotor

After one of the MGRV8 Facebook group members commented that they cured a misfire by replacing the distributor pickup module I thought I better check it out.

It was very obvious at first sight that the rotor was very rusty …. although I couldn’t see how that could cause the problem but it still would be best to clean it up.

Checking  and adjusting rotor / pickup gap

Reassembled and checked the gap between the rotor tip and pickup was correct at between 0.2-0.35mm using a non ferrous gauge. I found some plastic packaging I used that I measured to be 0.3mm thick with a vernier. Slackened the 2 brass screws held it shut with the plastic gauge in place and re- tightened the screws.

A new pickup module is about £30 but will wait till I do some more tests on the Airflow Meter.
