The coil looked a bit old and corroding around the edges but I guess it’s in a pretty vulnerable position tucked just behind the radiator. Also I don’t think bosch would have been fitted originally on a Lucas system. So a new Lucas branded coil goes in …….. although it has a Lucas name I suppose it would still most likely have been mass produced in China – but hopefully under a strict Lucas quality control criteria?

The coil mount base had to be reshaped a bit to suit the location it was being mounted. The electrical earthing connections certainly benefited from a clean up.

Anyway a good job done but the misfire was still there!! I am hoping when I get the Lucas replacement distributer amplifier it will be the answer. If it doesn’t stop the misfire it should iliminate the source of the problem being an ignition fault.
Meanwhile I’ll clean up the Bosch coil and keep it as a good spare.
