Still got a bit of a misfire so I’m back on the ignition side of the engine. I took the top off the distributer to check for any tracking but all looks OK. I also cleaned up the rotor arm contacts whilst in there.

One of the possible sources of a misfire could be the ignition amplifier module. I bought a replacement from powerspark. It is a straight forward swop once the fan belt cowling and the air filter is removed to gain better access.
The one I replaced was an original and looking its age with quite a bit of corrosion on it ……. but I still have that occasional misfire with this replacement!!

Update …….. I went for a 4 mile drive got home and whilst ticking over on my driveway the engine just stopped and would not restart! I refitted the original module and all ok ….. the new one is now on its way back to the supplier for a refund. Guess the moral of the story is buy from a reputable source – although I thought Powerspark would be OK ….. maybe just a bad one. If I buy another it will be from Lucas.
Another update ………. now fitted a new Lucas branded module but still have the misfire. So again looking as though it’s a fuel issue. At the recent NEC Classic Car Restoration Show I bought 8 spark plug tell tale lights which I will test out next.
