Manually turning the crank

I wanted to check the timing was as it should be. Its quite a quick job with a strobe but you need to have a good visible timing marks on the crank pulley so I needed to locate and clean them up.

I found the best way- and only way – I could turn the crank was by using the nut on the alternator pulley and at the same time applying pressure on the fan belt by hand.
