Bleeding the clutch

Master cylinder suspect leak

I have used the Gunson Bleeding kit for a few years now and found it very effective removing air from the mgb clutch hydraulics – which is a renowned tricky job. It’s also makes the job easy for one person to do on their own.

Well protected against spillage

Although i think it is a very useful tool I usually land up with a brake fluid spillage at some point. The same happened again but this time I was prepared and caught it. I would recommend having plenty of rags to catch any brake fluid and to place the pressurised fluid bottle in a bucket.

Place the holding bottle in a bucket to prevent spillage

The old brake fluid was very dirty and didn’t look clean to after about half a litre of bleeding. Then tested the clutch pedal and it felt as it should be. I removed all the bleeding kit and tested again to feel where the bite point was with the engine running and it had moved from the floor to about half way of pedal travel ……. job done and sorted.

There is some seepage from the master cylinder so no doubt a future job will be to replace it or new rubbers may be required so will regularly check the fluid level to gauge how how urgent.
